Letter from
the President
2008-2009 marks the 41st
year for the Texas JCI Senate and I am proud to
serve this great organization this year. We have
been faced with many challenges this year and are
meeting them head-on. Our year started with the news
that we lost a great friend in past president of the
Texas JCI Senate Donnie Yandle #52646. Donnie was
directly responsible for re-activating me in the
Texas JCI Senate and I have chosen to dedicate this
year of service in his memory. We hope to have a
great impact on our Jaycee organization and also to
grow to the record membership level achieved by
Donnie in the 1998-1999 Senate year. Your assistance
and participation this year will go a long way
toward helping us reach these lofty goals.
Most recently we have seen our
Jaycee family hit hard by Hurricane Ike as it came
landward in early September. Many were without power
for days, weeks, or more. Some had minor damage to
their property and/or homes while others were
completely wiped out. The Texas JCI Senate is
collecting funds to be distributed directly to our
Jaycee family who are in dire need of assistance and
you can participate by emailing
me or treasurer
Logan Giesie #51120 for information on how to
contribute.
The Texas JCI Senate will be
hosting the USJCI Winter Board meeting in Houston,
TX on January 22-25, 2009. We hope all Jaycees and
Senators from Texas will take this opportunity to
join with us in welcoming our friends from across
the nation to Houston for a great time in Houston.
Chairman
Dave Gilkeson #50809 and his committee have a
very full and exciting convention planned. During
this event we will also be hosting a charity golf
tournament on Friday January 23 to raise money for
the Donnie Yandle Memorial Scholarship fund
presented by the USJCI Senate Foundation. Please
contact
Bill Madding #28920 for more information on this
event or for more Donnie Yandle Memorial
fundraising.
We hope you enjoy our award
winning website (recognized as one of the
Outstanding State Websites by the USJCI Senate for
2007-2008). Special thanks go to Texas Jaycee Ron
Harrop for his work getting us back online. This
year webmaster
Keith Locke #28962 has gone even farther with
additional content and new features. Please be sure
to give him your comments and compliments as you
visit the many links on our site.
Thanks for helping to make
2008-2009 a great year for the Texas JCI Senate.
